Anniversary gift - what do we give couples over the years
Why the "traditional" material doesn't work literally
The old list of "which year, which material" is a good starting point, but no one literally gives paper for a first anniversary. The idea is deeper: the material reflects the relationship. For the first year – still flexible, easy to fold. For a silver anniversary – resilient, precious, rust-proof.
We do this with our two main materials: wood (durable, warm, natural) and textile (soft, personal, everyday).
Years 1-5: A soft beginning
The first years are about shared memories and the stubbornness to build your rhythm. Ideas:
- Music box with a song from your first date with an engraved date
- Embroidered sweatshirts with "her" / "his" or nicknames only you two understand
- Engraved compass with coordinates of your first meeting place
Years 5-10: Affirmation
Here you are already a "team". Gifts can reflect common goals:
- Engraved wooden "memories" box with dividers for each year - you put something inside each anniversary
- Engraved crank music box with photos from the 5 years
- Passport cover with "her & his" - for future travels
10+ years: Memorable
Here the gift should mark the journey, not the moment. Ideas:
- Engraved wooden board with top 10 memories from the past 10 years - one sentence for each
- Large wooden puzzle with an engraved family photo
- Collection of 5-6 small engraved items, each representing a special year
What we do NOT recommend for an anniversary
- Gift vouchers from stores - they seem easy because they are. Your partner knows it.
- "Standard luxury" items like perfume or a watch without personalization - they say "I bought you a gift," not "I thought of you."
- Double gifts (double mugs, double keychains) - unless they have personal words, they look mass-produced.
Production time
For an anniversary, we recommend ordering 10-14 days in advance. Engraved items are ready in 1-3 business days, delivery is 1-2 days - but you want to have a buffer, because an anniversary cannot be redone.
