Engraving from beech - what you need to know before ordering

Why specifically beech wood

At Wishifyy, we work with natural beech wood sourced in Bulgaria. This isn't just marketing – beech wood is one of the densest in our climate zone, making it ideal for laser engraving. The fibers are dense and uniform, so the engraving comes out sharp and contrasted, without black halos around the edges.

The other reason is practical: beech doesn't split due to temperature differences between the engraved and non-engraved areas. This means that a wooden gift from Wishifyy will look the same on the day it was made and 10 years later – whether you keep it on a desk or a nightstand.

What happens when you order

Once you complete your order, your file enters our work queue. The laser machine precisely burns the text or design along the contours of the wood – no paints, no stickers, no print. The engraving has a depth of about 0.3-0.6 mm, making it visible and tangible to the touch, without weakening the wood's structure.

After engraving, each item undergoes manual polishing – we remove fine wood shavings from the edges and check the contrast of the letters. If something doesn't meet the standard, we remake it. This is why our engraved products are ready in 1-3 business days, not a few hours.

What can be engraved

A simple rule: anything that can be read in one breath. Names, initials, dates, short messages (up to about 60 characters per line). We test every font on a sample to ensure it's readable even at smaller sizes.

What we do not recommend: long paragraphs, complex fonts in small sizes, or photos with many tiny details. The laser can do anything, but the brain of the person looking at it prefers a clean and readable result.

How durable is the engraving

The engraved image is impossible to erase – it's part of the wood itself. You can wash it with a damp cloth, rub it with a dry one, even wipe it with vegetable oil (which some customers do to refresh its appearance) – the engraving remains.

The only thing that changes over time is the color of the wood – beech slightly darkens from UV light over 1-2 years. This actually makes the engraving appear even more contrasted, because the letters retain their original dark shade, while the background fades.

How to care for engraved wood

• No dishwasher. Our wooden products are not to be washed at 60°C.
• No direct sunlight for extended periods. This bleaches the wood unevenly.
• A damp cloth is sufficient for cleaning after use.
• Once a year, you can refresh the shine with a thin layer of linseed oil or special wood balm.
